Malls Mire and North Toryglen Greenspace Project Recognised as a Building With Nature Exemplar

The £3.5M Malls Mire and North Toryglen Greenspace Project, delivered by Clyde Gateway earlier this year with funding from the ERDF Green Infrastructure Fund (administered by Nature Scot), Glasgow City Council (including Vacant and Derelict Land Funding from Scottish Government), Transforming Communities Glasgow, and UK walking and cycling charity Sustrans, has been recognised as an exemplar of how green infrastructure can be improved for the benefit of the local community and wildlife using the Building with Nature approach.

The project has transformed 16ha of poor quality and previously neglected land into a mixed-use park, incorporating wetland habitats, play parks and gym equipment, a network of footpaths and cycle routes, a woodland educational facility, and many other significant wildlife and landscape enhancements. Cycle routes on site l link to the wider cycling network in Glasgow, enabling climate-positive active-travel within the city. The scheme also incorporates a Local Nature Reserve, the Malls Mire Woodland and enhances the area for people and wildlife.

The new infrastructure increases opportunities for community participation in outdoor activities and helps develop and complete aspirations for the area and grow the events, educational facilities and resources used by the local community and delivered through key groups such as Urban Roots.
