Cuningar Loop Phase 2 Construction Completed

Cuningar Loop Phase 2 Construction Completed

The Cuningar Loop Phase 2 project is an 8.53 hectare extension to the first phase of the Cuningar Loop park which has transformed previously vacant and derelict land into new and managed public park and woodland. Phase 2 opened in October 2022 and has been well used by the local community including the local schools and nurseries.

The key elements that the project has delivered are:

  • An extension to the riverside walkway offering opportunities to view and connect with the river.
  • An information point to offer a space for shelter and rest.
  • Linked woodland walkways, seating and picnic areas.
  • Wildflower planting areas and plants to encourage biodiversity including butterfly basking.
  • An education zone, providing an area where local schools can take advantage of outdoor education opportunities including interpretation points, a pond, informal log seating and benches.
  • Additional car and mini bus parking, currently closed but due to open in 2023.

The project, delivered by Clyde Gateway, received £2.3m of Clyde Mission funding with the remainder of the £3.2m project being met by the NatureScot administered ERDF Green Infrastructure Fund. The project compliments other investment in the area including the Cuningar bridge, Cuningar Loop Phase 1, the Hope Sculpture, the Bothy and Tur, as well as planned improvements to the access road and car park.
